PORTRAITS AND LANDSCAPES - MARK VAN YETTER

09 NOV, 2024 - 04 JAN, 2025

Bridget Donahue is happy to present our fourth solo exhibition with Mark van Yetter, Portraits and Landscapes. As the title suggests, these are portraits of people I have known presented alongside some small landscapes. In this regard, the subject is rather straightforward. They continue, as all my endeavors, towards image making —to communicate through terms closely related to poetics.

BEDROOM EYES - HILLIARY GABRYEL

9 NOV, 2024 - 11 JAN ,2025

Mrs. is pleased to present Bedroom Eyes, Queens-based artist Hilliary Gabryel’s debut solo exhibition with the gallery. Working in mixed media, this presentation focuses on the artist’s series of altered headboards and vanities which she sources from resale markets or finds on the street.

The majority of stylized furniture she salvages can be traced to the Italian-Australian entrepreneur Franco Cozzo – the so-called “furniture king” of Melbourne. His larger-than-life personality matched his flamboyant furniture that he advertised in television commercials, reaching large audiences and thereby popularizing his ostentatious sofas and bedroom sets; for an accessible price, bourgeois dreams and elevated cultural capital could be made a reality. Preloved pieces are now often found on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist.

WHAT IS THE OPPOSITE OF A BLACK HOLE? - DREW SESKUNAS

08 OCT, 2024 - 07 OCT, 2025

If a black hole absorbs all light and information surrounding it, the opposite would project light and propagate information. This sculpture celebrates the rich history of science in Queens by highlighting residents who worked to expand our understanding of the universe, casting light where before there was darkness. The artwork honors the contributions of Queens-born scientists Dr. Joseph Weinberg, Dr. Lisa Randall, Dr. Marie Maynard Daly, Dr. Eugenie Clark, Dr. Ivan R. King, and Dr. Arthur Cooper.
