ALL DAY ALL NIGHT - CHRISTINE SUN KIM

In works full of sharp wit and incisive commentary, Christine Sun Kim, engages sound and the complexities of communication in its various modes. Using musical notation, infographics, and language—both in her native American Sign Language (ASL) and written English—she has produced drawings, videos, sculptures, and installations that often explore non-auditory, political dimensions of sound. In many works, Kim draws directly on the spatial dynamism of ASL, translating it into graphic form. By emphasising images, the body, and physical space, she upends the societal assumption that spoken languages are superior to those that are signed.

PSYCHIC INSTRUSION - SAMIRA ABBASSY @RICHARD SALTOUN GALLERY 05 FEB - 14 MAR, 2025 Richard Saltoun Gallery New York is pleased to announce Psychic Intrusion, the inaugural solo exhibition by Iranian-born, New York-based artist Samira ABBASSY (b. 1965) with the gallery. Spanning over a decade of paintings and works on paper, the exhibition traces Abbassy’s ongoing exploration of the figure as a physical and metaphysical entity, uncovering the many layers of the Self through the lens of both personal and universal narratives. Her practice draws on a mixture of European and Iranian-Persian artistic traditions, pre-Renaissance art, Jungian psychoanalysis, and autobiographical elements—particularly her matriarchal lineage—to explore the complexities of diasporic identity, foregrounding the interplay between individual memory and collective history.

WISH YOU WERE HERE - FRANK HOLLIDAY

@SWIVEL GALLERY 23 JAN - 21 FEB, 2025

Swivel Gallery is proud to present “Wish You Were Here”, the first solo exhibition of Frank Holliday with the gallery, debuting his vigorous new body of work that encapsulates the viewer in its potency, bringing together a suite of paintings the artist has catalyzed over the past two years. For Frank Holliday, painting becomes a vector to create epic metaphors of human existence, before morphing into language and rational formulation. Through a simple remedy of material, paint and canvas, abstraction becomes complex, a way to explore the infinite possibilities of expression of both colors and the body beyond any existing linguistic codes, a signatory that pushes, pulls, and encapsulates the viewer in its singularity. It has, if done properly, the ability to have a plethora of effects on the viewer, one of a shiver, of joy, of contemplation; its consequences contain multitudes.

LOVE EVER AFTER - PERNILLA OHRSTEDT

04 FEB - 04 MAR, 2025

Times Square Arts is pleased to present Pernilla Ohrstedt Studio's Love Ever After as the winner of the 17th annual Love & Design Competition, on display from February 4 – March 4, 2025 with the support of curatorial partner The World Around and collaborator Billion Oyster Project. Love Ever After is designed to create beauty through simplicity, where reuse, regrowth, and love for the environment and community are an integral part of its story. The project assembles metal mesh used for oyster reef cages to create a three-dimensional grid revealing geometries of a heart. The three-dimensional heart flickers and shifts color and shape as the angle of its perception changes, creating a tactile and human-scale experience in contrast to the high-tech screens for which Times Square is famous.
