NY-ARTNEWS: Who or what most influences you? How would you say your upbringing in Russia influence your art?

A.M: I admire the art of Frida Kahlo. I admire her strength and the power of her character that can be seen in her artworks. My upbringing has greatly influenced my art. I even did a project based on Russian church paintings called icons and an installation of Russian dolls.

NY-ARTNEWS: What has been your favorite project or exhibition so far?

A.M: My solo show in New York so far is my most favorite.

NY-ARTNEWS: If you could meet any artist, living or dead, who would it be?

A.M: Frida Kahlo

NY-ARTNEWS: What project is next for you? What do you want to achieve in the next 2 years?

A.M: I have many projects in mind at the moment, but want to keep them secret for now. I want to accomplish everything I can, and hopefully rule the world.

NY-ARTNEWS: Tell me about your process. How does it differ depending on the medium? What is the first thing you do when starting new work?

A.M: My process is usually improvised each time depending on my goal and medium. Sometimes I plan projects, but mostly the blank canvas speaks to me and I start to follow.

NY-ARTNEWS: What role do you see artists playing in the current political climate?

A.M: I don’t engage in politics.

NY-ARTNEWS: Where do you draw inspiration from when creating art?

A.M: My main inspirations are people, and their emotions and interactions.

NY-ARTNEWS: How do you prepare for an upcoming exhibition? What is most important to you in taking on a new challenge in your career?

A.M: I try to not stress too much, it is bad for concentration. But I do like challenges. They make me stronger and better as an artist and as a person.
