What does it mean to be an independent artist?

Being an independent artist is not a label that defines the kind of art an artist makes, but how you choose to make a living off of it. It means making the majority of your income directly and independently without working through an intermediary or getting involved with the gallery system. Independent artists make their living on their own terms and don't have to rely on galleries for income.

Their marketing strategy and branding will help them to communicate and express their work all of their marketing channels.

Independent artists must think like any self-employed business person, finding new markets for their work and using all their connections to get the word out about their creations.

But it is also important for them to create their own platform to reach out to the art market, pier-to-pier, and succeed.

The apotheosis for the independent artist takes place twice per year at Clio Art Fair, the “Anti” fair for independent artists. Clio is an ideal platform in Chelsea for independent artists to showcase their works in the heart of New York City. Clio Art Fair is a curated fair created with the idea of discovering independent artists and showcasing the careers and achievements of already affirmed creative minds.

This March 8-11 2018, 57 artists from all over the world showcased their works at Clio art fair where artists and buyers interacted pier to pier without any intermediary. After visiting Clio Art Fair it unavoidable to state that this is a very well curated art fair that offers a great platform and opportunities for independent artists.
